Special relationship between Scott Palmer and his sponsor now extends to crew

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 11) -- The relationship between Top Fuel driver Scott Palmer and sponsor Tommy Thompson is definitely different than most. Palmer and Thompson are friends, first and foremost, and they're also partners in a winning drag boat team. The fact they are able to promote two of Thompson's businesses -- Magic Dry Organic Absorbent and CatSpot Organic Litter -- is merely a bonus. "My deal with Tommy is so much more than business," Palmer said. "It's a personal friendship between me and him. We just happen to love the same things and we have figured out a way...

Historic value of 50th Gatornationals not lost on Top Fuel Harley rider Rickey House

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 8) -- Even though the Mickey Thompson Tires Top Fuel Harley Series is a relatively new addition to the NHRA schedule, the historical implications of racing at the upcoming 50th anniversary Amalie Oil Gatornationals has not been lost on Magic Dry Harley rider Rickey House. "Fifty years of the Gatornationals? That’s a special thing right there," House said. "I've seen all the news stories and to have all the legends of the sport there makes it very cool for all of us. Heck, we all grew up admiring those people. Plus, if you look down the list...

Rickey House’s best run of the weekend bettered by eventual race winner in Pomona semis

POMONA, Calif. (Feb. 11) — Rickey House knew he’d need a very quick elapsed time to beat top qualifier Doug Vancil in the semifinal round of Monday’s rain-delayed 59th annual Lucas Oil Winternationals, and he did manage to tune his Magic Dry Organic Absorbent Top Fuel Harley to a best-of-the-weekend 6.285 at 220.98 mph. But in a very close race, Vancil was able to catch and pass House in the last few hundred feet to take the victory with a 6.260 at 220.08 mph. One round later, Vancil took the overall race win. “I put the kitchen sink to it...

Scott Palmer’s search for another career-best at season opener goes up in smoke

POMONA, Calif. (Feb. 10) — After posting multiple career-best numbers in qualifying, Scott Palmer and his upstart Magic Dry Organic Absorbent Top Fuel team tried to go even quicker in Sunday’s opening round of the 59th annual Lucas Oil Winternationals. But alas, they were a little too aggressive, smoking the tires of their 11,000-horsepower rail as soon as Palmer stepped on the gas. “Like I said before the season started, we’re done racing by hoping the other guy makes a mistake so we can win the round,” Palmer said. “We’re racing to win straight up. We may make a few...

(Feb. 9) — Scott Palmer’s Magic Dry Organic Absorbent Top Fuel Dragster may not top the qualifying sheet at this weekend’s 59th annual Lucas Oil Winternationals, but you’d be hard pressed to find a happier and more confident team than his bunch heading into the first race day of the 2019 NHRA season. Palmer and crew, which features four new members, managed to run three passes quicker than Palmer’s previous career best of 3.754 seconds. Ultimately,...
